I STARTED WALKING YESTERDAY

I have started a walking regimen with a friend of mine, yesterday. We walk along a bluff road that goes by the river, and today was a beautiful winters day, as well as yesterday. We could see geese, and the beautiful rocky bluffs. We are keeping a log of all the miles and how we feel when we are finished, it's so great and motivational. We began this walk, because we both were discussing that we needed to get ourselves in better, healthier shape. My friend is my age..50...and he has had a heart attack, and diabetes. And, of course you all know what things I am going through, in addition to the cancer and 2 treatments that I now take, I also have a slight congestive heart failure from the sepsis I had a year ago, October. Yesterday, we walked 2 and 1 half miles in 1 hour. Today, we walked 4 .5 miles in 1 hr. and 42 minutes. I am a bit tired, but it invigorates me. Very good for you, mentally, physically, and strengthens your health. We are so happy to do this. I hope that we can be an inspiration to those of you, who wish they could do it. It can be done!! Just do it, it's so worth it. There is also a website you can log all of the activities of the days you walk, and it tells you a lot about lots of things...very interesting and motivational. And, believe me, if I can do it, many of you can do it too....I spent the 1st week of this month very sick from my treatments, and here I am back on my feet and trying to stay healthy. It truly is fun, especially with a friend. I am a little soar right now, but, in time it will be worth it, and in no time, we shouldn't be feeling so sore. I loved it!!! __If you would like the name of the sight we log into to keep up with what we do each day. Just ask, and I will be happy to give you the link!!!! : )

When you first find out you have Breast Cancer:

Breast Cancer patients view life with new lenses. Time takes on new meaning. What's important in life takes center stage. More times than not the first question that enters your mind is,why did I get breast cancer? Rather than waste precious moments wondering whether your illness was caused by something you did or did not do, or worrying that you mother, sister or daughter will develop breast cancer if yours is a new case in the family, spend your time wisely looking forward and moving on. Only 5 to 10 percent of breast cancer has a genetic origin. For the rest, don't ask why, because there simply is no "why". The race for health and wellness is winnable, and it is achievable, but none of us can do it alone. Without friends and family and companions and, above all, information, we are wandering in the medical and spiritual wilderness. The bottom line is simple: health is our most precious gift. To preserve it, as patients, we neeed to be active, we need to be assertive, and we need to partner with our health care providers and our loved ones.

The Real Numbers

Even though breast cancer is expected to account for nearly 32 percent of all new cancer cases among women, and just over 668,000 women are diagnosed with some form of cancer each year, long-term survival rates for breast cancer are continuing an upward trend. Some 88 percent of white women and 74 percent of African American women will be able to say they are "former breast cancer patients." Lung cancer, not breast cancer, is the leading cause of death among women. Heart disease, not breast cancer, is the leading cause of death among women.

Breast Cancer Matters.....

This site has been designed to discuss all & any Breast Cancer issues, no matter what they may be. It could be your story, questions about testing, giving self exams, doctors, 2nd opinions, political, medical, diagnoses, treatments, alternative, getting tested for family genes, ages for getting exams and mammograms, Insurance, whatever is on your mind or the buzz of the day on Breast Cancer issues. If you need to vent or discuss issues, this is the place to do so. Not only should we vent and discuss, but, need to try to find ways to do something about these things, because we as a people will not stand for anyone keeping women and men from getting the care they need. Any comments on these subjects or what you are thinking, is the reason I have done this for us. You and I. Any comments on how my site is doing, is much appreciated. Suggestions are welcome & will be considered.
Thank you,
